Kesempatan untuk menemui satu-satunya awak Essex yang masih hidup, Tom Nickerson (Brendan Gleeson) pun tak dilewatkannya. Dengan berbagai cara, termasuk menawarkan uang, Herman akhirnya berhasil meyakinkan Tom untuk menceritakan peristiwa itu dengan sebenar-benarnya.
